Scuba Diving at local Reefs

Take a break from the sandy beaches and the hammocks on your trip to Belize and venture into the depths of the Caribbean Sea where remarkable treasures await. The crystal clear waters sports multiple dive sites known for colorful beauty and vast marine life.  Whether you’re diving down the barrier reef or dropping by a bay swarming with nurse sharks, paradise extends beyond the shores with these local scuba dives sites in Southern Belize.

Turneffe Atoll Diving The Great Blue Hole
Take a 1-hour boat ride to visit “The elbow” at the southernmost tip of Turneffe Atoll for advanced divers only. This dive site is the most exposed to currents which often attract large schools of fish such a Horse-eye Jacks, groupers and snappers, along with large schools of Eagle rays. After a 2 -hour boat ride, you will descend along the edge in the area most likely to be visited by reef sharks. Dive down to the entrance of a recessed cave guarded by huge stalagmites and stalactites. Most people say that this reef alone is worth the trip .

 For the best of the Atoll,  a 2-hour boat ride to reach the dive site called “Off The Wall” or “the Aquarium”. Off the wall is where a kaleidoscope of coral lines the 6,000 ft wall that welcomes divers into its depths. Expect to come across lobsters, crabs, parrot fish, eagle rays, Creole Wrasse, turtles, yellow tail snappers, horse eyed jacks and much more at these two sites. For those who like their marine life big! This exciting dive trip includes encounters with whale sharks. The whale shark is one of the most sought after fish by divers, who are attracted to not only their size but their docile and curious nature. Diving encounters with these ancient giants are possible between the months of March to June around full moon.

Tour duration: Full day (8 hours)

Inclusions:

  • Boat and boat captain.
  • Guided (by Dive Master) scuba diving trip to specified site
  • Dive tank, fins, mask, weight, weight belts and other equipment
  • Towel, bottled water, packed lunch, fruit slices and cookies

Exclusions:

  • 5% General Sales Tax
  • Sodas and beers

What to bring:

  • Sunscreen
  • Underwater camera

 

Know before you book:

  • You must be 14 years or older with parental consent
  • 18 years or older without consent
  • You must be able to swim on your own
  • Divers must present evidence of scuba certification
  • Hours of operation are 9 am-5 pm daily. You will receive confirmation of your exact tour departure time upon reservation confirmation.
  • Not suitable for expecting mothers or people with heart/back problems
  • Minimum of two people must book for tour to depart

Yok Ha Island Resort is on a three (3) acre private island just eight (8) miles east of Dangriga in Southern Belize. The island resort consists of five deluxe cabanas which have been designed with privacy and beach comfort in mind. The onsite restaurant serves delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the bar is the perfect spot to grab a cold beer or relax on the deck that overlooks the beautiful Belize Barrier Reef.
