Travel trends for 2017: off the beaten track in Belize

Travel to Belize in 2017

Prominent Canadian media source CTV News recently published a report focusing on Belize as a top travel trend for vacationers who want to explore “off the beaten track.” The CTV News report highlighted the fact that Latin America is poised to become a key travel trend in 2017, and that Belize is ideal for visitors looking for “a walk on the wild side.”

The CTV News report spotlighted the ancient Maya site of Xunantunich. The oldest continuously excavated Maya ruin in Belize, Xunantunich is an enormous site located in southern Belize near its border with Guatemala. CTV News recommended that travelers unafraid of venturing into the largely undeveloped interior of the country can enjoy fantastic views from the top of Xunantunich, ideal for anyone wishing to capture emblematic photos of Belize.

The CTV News report lavished the beauty and adventure opportunities available on the Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef in the world. One of the top destinations featured in the article was the Great Blue Hole, sometimes known as the Belize Blue Hole, a submerged sinkhole stretching more than 984 feet (300 meters) in diameter. The Belize Blue Hole was rated by famed French marine biologist and documentarian Jacques Cousteau as one of his top 10 spots to dive on the entire planet.

Other activities and places to see recommended in the CTV News report include a trip to Corozal Town to marvel at the Spanish colonial influence on the architecture and sample fresh-caught seafood. The CTV News article also highlighted the fact that Belize is the only English-speaking country in the region thanks to its long history as a British colony. In addition, other languages such as Spanish, Creole, and Garifuna are spoken throughout Belize thanks to its melting pot culture.

In addition to the glowing report from CTV News, the publication Jewish Chronicle also selected Belize as a top travel destination for 2017. The Jewish Chronicle article emphasized the convenience of new airline connections to the country, including the American Airlines route that allows visitors to travel from Heathrow directly to Belize City via a stopover in Miami. The Jewish Chronicle mentioned how Belize is a family adventure destination with lots of options, including snorkeling, diving, and exploring ancient Maya ruins.

To make the most of your Belize vacation, consider the Yok Ha Island Resort. Located on a privately-owned three-acre island just a few miles offshore of southeastern Belize, Yok Ha is the perfect Belize island resort for families, honeymooners, and adventure travelers. Yok Ha is conveniently located close to both the top attractions on the reef as well as popular destinations on the mainland.
