Yok Ha Welcomes New Calgary to Belize Flight

On July 23, 2017, on its website, WestJet announced that it will begin flying new non-stop routes to Central America, including a weekly flight between Calgary, Alberta (YYC) and Belize City (BZE) beginning on November 3, 2017.

WestJet was the first Canadian airline to begin offering non-stop service to Belize. Starting in early 2016, WestJet began flying from Toronto (YYZ) to Belize. Rival Air Canada, in response to the growing demands of the Belize travel market, countered with the announcement that they too would be flying from Toronto to Belize beginning this December, so WestJet’s announcement that they will begin offering service to Belize for residents of western Canada this November is a clear indication that travel to Belize is now getting easier and more affordable than ever before.

Yok Ha is a luxury resort located on the privately owned island of Waterfoot Caye just eight miles offshore from Dangriga in southeastern Belize. Set on three acres with a fully panoramic 360-degree view of the Caribbean, Yok Ha has five intimate cabins, an onsite gourmet restaurant, beachfront bar, and fully stocked dive center.

Perfectly situated near all of the top diving, fishing, and snorkeling sites in the southern Belize Barrier Reef, Yok Ha offers its guests complimentary use of sea kayaks to enjoy “island hopping” or leisurely tours around the island.

Yok Ha is also close to the major attractions on the mainland, including the enormous Cockscomb Basin Nature Reserve (home to the world’s first jaguar conservation science center) and the well-named Monkey River where visitors can head far inland to experience the pristine jungle at its finest.

Yok Ha is just a short boat ride from Dangriga, a colorful and vibrant city on the southeastern coast of Belize. Widely known as the cultural capital of the country, Dangriga has a thriving music scene and is the birthplace of the “punta rock” genre of music.

Close to Dangriga are other Garifuna cultural centers such as Hopkins and Placencia. An Afro-Caribbean people who have been recognized by the United Nations for their intangible contributions to language, music, and food, the Garifuna are one of Belize’s most iconic cultures, renowned for their drumming and dancing.

The Yok Ha Island resort is the ideal getaway for Canadians who want to enjoy a family vacation, adventures on both the mainland and offshore islands, or newlyweds who want to enjoy a romantic getaway in a tropical island setting.
